PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Wave is a playful and cheeky laxative chocolate brand that doesn’t shy away from what it is. The packaging is designed to strike a balance between humor and functionality while maintaining a visually clean and modern aesthetic. The product targets adults with a sense of humor, blending tasteful minimalism with unexpected wit. The brand's identity is strongly tied to water imagery, referencing its natural, cleansing function and its name. To suit different production needs, two packaging variants have been developed. One is a complex, limited run design for boutique appeal and a simplified version optimized for mass production.
DESIGN OBJECTIVES:
Communicate function with humor - Use clever visuals and structure to allude to the product’s laxative effect while keeping the tone light and friendly.
Differentiate the product on shelves - Use white space, a bold wavy brown logo, and water elements to create a standout, cohesive look.
Highlight product visibility - Provide a visual cue to the chocolate through a window in the premium version.
Adaptability - Develop two packaging variants tailored to different manufacturing capabilities intricate for small runs, efficient for mass retail.
DESIGNS:
Limited-Edition Design (Small Production):
Structure - A rectangular box with a die-cut window showing the chocolate inside.
Special Feature - A humorous cover flap shaped like a toilet seat lid must be lifted to view the chocolate, reinforcing the product’s function in a cheeky yet tasteful way.
Visuals - Brown wavy lettered logo front and center, white background for cleanliness, and water wave graphics subtly layered into the design.
Mass Production Design:
Structure - A simplified box with a unique wavy-opening flap that visually echoes the brand name and simplifies manufacturing.
Visuals - Consistent use of the wavy brown logo, water imagery, and clean white background. The simplicity allows for easy replication and shipping while still maintaining strong brand identity.
OUTCOME:
The Wave packaging designs successfully blend humor, clarity, and shelf appeal. The premium toilet seat cover design draws attention and creates memorable brand interactions in boutique or online retail settings. The streamlined wavy opening version offers a scalable solution for grocery or pharmacy shelves without losing the playful essence of the brand. Both packages reinforce the product’s promise through wit, water imagery, and tasteful minimalism making Wave a refreshing entry into the laxative market.
