EYE'm Hooked
Project type
Silk Screen Print / Fine Art Illustration
Date
October 2023
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Eye’m Hooked is a surreal silk screen print depicting two disembodied, free-roaming eyeballs suspended in a tense, emotional exchange. The first eye, positioned on the left with a red iris, gazes upward in sorrow, its surface welling with tears. Opposite of it, the second eye with a blue iris, hangs from a fish hook, its veins entangled around the metal as a single drop of blood clings to it. The blue eye looks downward toward the red one, creating a visual dialogue of empathy, pain, and connection through shared gaze and vulnerability.
DESIGN OBJECTIVES:
Symbolism & Emotion - Convey the idea of emotional entanglement and pain through surreal anatomy, using the fish hook as a metaphor for attachment, suffering, and sacrifice.
Color Contrast - Employ a restrained palette dominated by red and blue to emphasize duality of pain and calm, suffering and acceptance, connection and distance.
Composition & Balance - Arrange the eyes in a diagonal tension line to guide the viewer’s gaze from the red eye’s upward longing to the blue eye’s downward sorrow, forming an emotional loop.
Texture & Detail - Utilize the silk screen medium to highlight intricate vein patterns, the reflective surface of the eyeballs, and the metallic shine of the hook, contrasting organic and industrial textures.
Narrative Depth - Encourage viewers to interpret the scene as both literal and metaphorical meditation on empathy, emotional captivity, and the fine line between connection and harm.
OUTCOME:
The completed print evokes a haunting sense of beauty and discomfort, inviting prolonged reflection. The interplay of gaze, tears, and tension creates a visceral emotional response, while the technical precision of the silk screen process enhances the surreal realism of the imagery. Eye’m Hooked stands as both a visual and psychological exploration of human attachment, a moment frozen between pain and compassion.
